A Chandannagar coin with the regnal year (RY) 12 refers to a rare silver rupee struck by the French during their colonial control of Chandannagar (formerly Chandernagore) in Bengal. Though minted in Chandannagar, the coin bears the name of the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II and the official mint name "Murshidabad" to maintain the appearance of Mughal authority.
